In a way, this movie about Gloria Trevi brought back to my mind some similarities with Nina Simone’s life. Both women, controversial, outspoken, liberal, unapologetic, unique in their own way. Both with a compelling message to deliver; both living a double life: a strong confident public persona and an abused and neglected rag-doll once in private.
Both destined to become for others, that same incongruence that they so overtly disdained about society. What a contradiction!
As for the production, I fully recommend this film because is not a biased portrait. Sofia Espinosa excels at impersonating Gloria to the point of making you sing and dance, once again, Trevi’s most famous songs while Marco Perez nails his role as Sergio Andrade, the ill-tempered manipulative abusive manager.
