I never heard about Joy’s life until this movie. Based on true events, this movie is about making dreams come true, about not silencing your true essence while you are busy putting bread on the table, and about circumventing rejection while on your way up. In short? About having self confidence and balls to carry on with your plans!

Many have criticized the fact that director David O. Russell keeps repeating his cast but I don’t mind his formula, as long as the film delivers. And this ensemble, unquestionably does!

Particular kudos to Jennifer Lawrence. When I saw her in the movie Silver Linings Playbook I said nice performance but not Oscar worthy. Then I found her a total fiasco in American Hustle which perhaps is exactly what was expected of her character.

In between movies, she tends to fall on every single set of stairs while graciously smiling. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! So, up to this point, she was a weak good looking doll in my mind. In her defense, perhaps I should instead have seen her performances as the heroine in The Hunger Games. This is the first time I feel she undertakes the role of an assertive, natural, and real woman and that suited her perfectly. What a Joy!
