An easy romantic comedy was my choice for this Sunday morning after an intense pre, during, and after Oscars season.

I needed to go back to so-so movies because that’s mainly what I will get until next year. Hugh Grant did what he does best; enchant with his vulnerable sense of sloppy cockiness.

Surrounded by a great supporting cast that included Marisa Tomei, J. K. Simmons, Allison Janney, and the guy who (in addition to our current Pope) always reminds me of Gomer Pyle, Chris Elliot, Hugh portrays a film writer unable to launch a new hit. This is the third movie that I watch, almost in a row, that deals with the subject of mid-point career’s irrelevance.

A slight ending difference is that, although forced by his need to work, the character finds a new niche for himself. One that, once he was able to subside his inner rebellion and silence his ego, turned to be delightful and rewarding as a new and promising beginning.
